Privacy Policy

Origen Jewellery is an independent fine jewellery studio specialising in Colombian emeralds. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it. We keep it as short and plain as we can, because we believe privacy policies should be readable too.

1. Who we are

Origen Jewellery ("we", "us") is a solo-run jewellery business based in the United Kingdom, 143 Eagles yard, hampton street, London, SE1 6SP. For the purposes of UK data protection law, we are the "data controller" of your personal information.

You can reach us at any time at hello@origenjewellery.com or on +447538128538.

2. What information we collect

We only collect what we need to help you, and nothing more. Depending on how you use this site, that may include:

  • Enquiries. When you contact us by email, telephone, Instagram or WhatsApp, we receive the details you choose to share — typically your name, contact details and the content of your message, including any photos or design ideas for a bespoke commission.
  • Order and commission details. If you place an order or commission a piece, we keep a record of the pieces, specifications, delivery address and correspondence relating to it.
  • Payment details. We do not currently take payments online. When online payments are introduced, card details will be handled by our payment provider and we will never see or store your full card number. Until then, any payment arrangements are made directly with us.
  • Your bag. The shopping bag on this website is stored only in your own browser on your own device. It is not sent to us and we cannot see its contents.

3. How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • answer your enquiries and provide advice about our jewellery and bespoke services;
  • design, make, certify and deliver your pieces, and keep you updated on progress;
  • process orders, returns and any guarantee or repair work;
  • keep the records we are legally required to keep (for example, for tax and accounting purposes).

We only use your information where we have a lawful basis to do so — most commonly because it is necessary to fulfil a contract with you (for example, making and delivering your order), because we have a legal obligation, or because we have a legitimate interest in running our business, such as keeping records of past commissions.

We will never sell your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling.

4. Marketing

We only send you marketing communications if you have asked us to — for example, by signing up to hear about new pieces. Every marketing message will include a simple way to stop hearing from us, and you can also ask us to stop at any time by emailing hello@origenjewellery.com.

5. Who we share information with

Your information stays with us except where a small number of trusted parties need it to help us serve you — for example, delivery couriers (to ship your order), certification laboratories (where a piece is certified), professional advisers such as our accountant, and the suppliers of the tools we use to run the business (such as our email provider). Where such parties process information on our behalf, we take reasonable steps to ensure they protect it appropriately. We may also share information where the law requires it.

6. How long we keep your information

  • Enquiries that do not lead to an order are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted.
  • Order and commission records are kept for up to 7 years after completion, to meet tax, accounting and guarantee obligations.
  • Marketing preferences are kept until you ask us to stop, and a short suppression record is kept afterwards so we don't contact you again by mistake.

7. Security

We are a small studio, and we treat your information with the same care we treat your jewellery. Access is limited to us, we use password-protected accounts, and we only keep paper records where necessary. If a data breach ever affected your rights, we would tell you and the Information Commissioner's Office without undue delay.

8. Cookies and analytics

This website stores your bag contents in your browser only, using your browser's local storage. We do not currently use advertising cookies or third-party tracking. If we later add analytics or other cookies, we will update this policy before doing so.

9. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information (the "right to be forgotten"), where we have no overriding legal reason to keep it;
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use your information;
  • ask for a portable copy of information you gave us; and
  • withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it (for example, for marketing).

To use any of these rights, simply email hello@origenjewellery.com or call us. We will respond within one month. You do not need to explain why.

10. Complaints

We would always rather put things right ourselves, so please contact us first with any concern. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

11. Changes to this policy

If anything about how we handle your information changes, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. If a change significantly affects you, we will do our best to let you know directly.

12. Contact us

Questions about this policy or about your information are always welcome — write to hello@origenjewellery.com or call +447538128538.
